The LVPEI–Liberia Eye Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, took part in an awareness walk from ELWA Junction to the Ministry of Health in Monrovia as part of the World Sight Day 2026 observance. The walk carried the message ‘Love Your Eyes’.

The walk aimed to raise public awareness about protecting vision, preventing avoidable blindness and seeking professional eye care when needed. It also helped spread the message that many eye conditions can be managed more effectively through early detection and appropriate treatment.
Following the walk, the team visited different specialty departments at the John F Kennedy Memorial Medical Center (JFKMC). The visits gave the team an opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals, build awareness of eye health across medical specialties and highlight the importance of integrating eye care into overall healthcare services.
Dr Vickie Fayiah Sam, Head of the LVPEI–Liberia Eye Center, spoke about the importance of World Sight Day in raising awareness about eye health. She encouraged all Liberians to embrace the message ‘Love Your Eyes’ by making regular eye examinations a priority and seeking professional care early. The LVPEI–Liberia Eye Center and the Ministry of Health called on the public to take eye health seriously. They emphasized that early detection, timely treatment and greater public awareness can help prevent avoidable vision loss, protect sight and improve quality of life.
