CPD Skill Development Program for Code Blue Teams

As part of the Continuous Professional Development initiative, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s Kallam Anji Reddy (KAR) Campus, Hyderabad, organized a Skill Development Training Program for Code Blue teams in July. The training brought together 66 nursing professionals and operation theatre (OT) technicians representing KAR and the surrounding Secondary Centres (SCs) connected to KAR, with the aim to strengthen their knowledge, skill, and preparedness in handling medical emergencies.

The session was led by Dr Archana Bhargava, Dr Raja Narsing Rao, and Ms G Vijaya, with support from the KAR Basic Life Support (BLS) team, Physician team, and the Anaesthetist team. The training featured interactive demonstrations and hands-on skill-building exercises covering the following skill stations and sessions:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Hands-on Training
• High-Quality CPR Practices
• Airway Management and Oxygen Administration
• IV Access and Emergency Drug Administration During CPR
• Crash Cart Management and Defibrillation
• Event Documentation and Post-Event Analysis
• Team Leader Roles and Coordination During Emergencies
• ECG Interpretation Session
• Code Blue Mock Scenarios and Practical Exercises

To measure learning outcomes, participants completed both pre-training and post-training assessments along with participant feedback, enabling the faculty to evaluate improvements in knowledge and practical competencies.

Initiatives such as these ensure that healthcare teams remain equipped to respond swiftly and effectively to medical emergencies, as part of LVPEI’s mission to deliver safe, high-quality eye care services to all those in need, regardless of geography or financial circumstances.
