ARVO India 2026 at LVPEI

The 32nd Annual Meeting of the Indian Eye Research Group – Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) India – was hosted by the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) from July 24-26, 2026 at The Leela Hyderabad, with pre-conference workshops held at LVPEI Kallam Anji Reddy (KAR) Campus.

The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Transformative Research in Eye and Vision’, which explored a wide range of disciplines across all areas of eye research. The three-day conference featured around 180 presentations, including talks and posters, made by a total of 350 delegates from across India. Speaking about the conference, Dr Subhabrata Chakrabarti, Associate Director, Research at the Brien Holden Eye Research Centre said, “The nuances and advances in fundamental and applied research, newer tools and techniques along with newer modes of data analysis and interpretations were evident through most of the presentations.”

Named orations, special talks, and keynote addresses added value to the program, complemented by the numerous free paper and poster presentations. Some of the key highlights from the program included:

Orations:

1. Bireswar Chakrabarti Oration: Delivered by Dr Terri Lois Young, President of ARVO and Chairwoman, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), University of Wisconsin, USA, on ‘Childhood Glaucoma Genetics’.
2. D Balasubramanian Oration: Delivered by Dr Manjula Reddy, JC Bose National Fellow, CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB), Hyderabad, on ‘Dynamics of the Bacterial Cell Wall’.
3. S S Badrinath Oration: Delivered by Dr Radhika Tandon, Chief, Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences and Professor of Ophthalmology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, on ‘Bioengineering Research in Ophthalmology and Innovative Solutions in Vision Care’.

Keynote Addresses:

1. Dr Peter Bex, Professor of Psychology, Northeastern University, USA, on the ‘Clinical Translation of Visual Psychophysics’.
2. Dr Amitha Domalpally, Research Director, Wisconsin Reading Center and Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Wisconsin, USA on ‘Development and Translation of Imaging Biomarkers in Retinal Diseases’.

As the organizer and host, LVPEI not only played a central role in the planning and execution of the conference but also contributed significantly to it. Faculty members conducted and co-organized pre-conference workshops, participated in scientific sessions, paper and poster presentations, and the iQuest Quiz.

Dr Swathi Kaliki, Head, OEU Institute for Eye Cancer and Dr Soumyava Basu, Consultant Ophthalmologist, also delivered special talks on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Retinoblastoma’ and ‘Immune Memory Within the Eye: Decoding Tissue-Resident T Cells in Uveitis’ respectively.
