Course Overview:
The workshop is dedicated to advancing participants’ knowledge, clinical decision-making, and surgical skills in the management of ophthalmic trauma. It aims to provide practical, evidence-based insights that can be directly applied to clinical practice and strengthen comprehensive eye-trauma services. The workshop will bring together residents, fellows, ophthalmologists, eye trauma specialists, and faculty from across institutions for interactive scientific sessions, case-based discussions, surgical demonstrations, and a wet-lab experience.
Course Outline:
It will be a two-day event with a wet lab session on the first day (Saturday), followed by scientific talks and interactive discussions on the second day (Sunday). The course will cover key aspects of acute and complex ophthalmic trauma, including:
- Initial assessment, triage, and emergency management of ophthalmic trauma
- Evaluation and management of open-globe injuries
- Corneal and scleral lacerations and their surgical repair
- Management of traumatic cataract and traumatic lens-related complications
- Intraocular foreign bodies: diagnosis and surgical management
- Anterior segment reconstruction following severe ocular trauma
- Management of complex ocular surface and limbal injuries
- Principles of vitreoretinal management in severe ocular trauma
- Case-based discussions and interactive problem-solving
- Surgical demonstrations and practical tips for challenging trauma cases
- Hands-on wet-lab training focusing on essential trauma repair techniques
- Postoperative care, complications, and visual rehabilitation following ophthalmic trauma
The workshop will combine didactic teaching, interactive discussions and hands-on wet lab training to provide a comprehensive and practical learning experience in ophthalmic trauma.
