Towards A Greener Tomorrow: Solar Energy System Set Up at LVPEI Alwal

As healthcare institutions increasingly look towards long-term sustainability, integrating renewable energy solutions into delivering high-quality services has become an integral part. Reflecting this belief, the Sai Life Sciences Eye Centre, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s city centre in Alwal, Secunderabad, took an important step towards greener healthcare infrastructure with the installation of a solar energy system, supported by Maanaveeya Development & Finance Private Limited, an Indian subsidiary of Oikocredit.

The installation was formally marked with a plaque unveiling ceremony at the eye centre on June 17, 2026, in the presence of Dr G Gouri Sankar, Managing Director, Maanaveeya Development & Finance Private Limited, and the LVPEI leadership team, including Dr Merle Fernandes, Campus Head, Kallam Anji Reddy (KAR) Campus. The visit also included a tour of the eye centre, offering the guests a closer look at how community-based eye centres play a critical role in bringing accessible, high-quality eye care closer to those in need.

Other than clinical services, providing quality eye care services also involves building healthcare systems that are sustainable and resilient. Over the years, sustainability has become a core part of LVPEI’s vision, shaping the way eye care is delivered to communities.

Since it’s first solar installation at its Shirin, Etian & Tara Brown Eye Centre in Kismatpur in December 2016, LVPEI has only scaled up in its adoption of solar energy systems, with Maanaveeya Development & Finance Private Limited being a consistent partner in advancing these initiatives. The organization has previously funded the installation of solar panels at the Kallam Anji Reddy (KAR) Campus in Hyderabad, and also supported the installation of panels at the Shirin Etian & Tara Brown Eye Centre in Kismatpur, the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary (KVC) Campus in Vijayawada, and the Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus in Bhubaneswar.
