Learning outcomes

The Vision Technician program is offered at the Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry (BLSO), Brien Holden Institute of Optometry and Vision Sciences, GPR campus, in Hyderabad. It is a specialized, two-year training initiative aimed at rural youth, equipping them to provide essential, high-quality primary eye care in underserved communities.

Started in 2001 with 11 students, the training course has been running successfully for the last 22 years at no cost to rural youth and assures 100% job placement. The program is now offered at all our tertiary eye care centres as well. The course is accredited by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCHAPO), an international organisation that certifies training programs and technicians across the world. To date, more than 1300 Vision Technicians have graduated from LVPEI’s Vision Technician program.

Additional Information

All students have to complete the entire two-year course and pass all the examinations to qualify for the certificate of Vision Technician. Students performance will be communicated to sponsoring organization regularly.

Despite the best efforts by the school, if a student fails to meet with the criteria of becoming a good Vision Technician, the student may be sent back. This can be done at any time during the two-year course, but is most likely to happen during the first months, after the exams at the end of the theory part (5th month) and after the first clinical posting.

Course fee will not be refunded in any case. Hence sponsoring agencies should take due care in the selection of their candidates.

When the student shows potential, but needs more time to clear the theory part, a 6 months extension can be granted. The sponsor has to pay the stipends for the extra six months.

International students should bring medical fitness certificate with them and should have a health insurance for the period of their stay in India.
