LVPEI Shines at DAKSHATA 3.0

Faculty and optometrists from the LVPEI Mithu Tulsi Chanrai (MTC) Campus, Bhubaneswar, made a significant impact at DAKSHATA 3.0, a prestigious post-graduate training and skill development program, organized by the Odisha State Ophthalmological Society at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on May 2 and May 3, 2026.

The two-day scientific event brought together leading academicians, clinicians and postgraduate trainees from across the region and served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, clinical discussions, wet labs, and hands-on learning experiences aimed at strengthening ophthalmic education and patient care skills.

Dr Avik Kumar Roy delivered an engaging lecture during the Glaucoma sessions, on Optic Disc Evaluation and acted as a moderator for the the Nucleus Management session during the Cataract Wet Lab. Meanwhile, Dr Umesh Chandra Behera shared his expertise on diagnosing and managing Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment. Dr Tapas Ranjan Padhi also provided significant insights for the diagnosis and management of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).

For the Cornea segment, Dr Smruti Rekha Priyadarshini moderated the scientific sessions and guided the wet-lab training focused on Corneal Drawing and Amniotic Membrane Grafting. Furthermore, Dr Sohini Mandal and Dr Sikha Misra coordinated engaging quiz sessions, with Dr Sikha Misra also supervising the ASOCT hands-on activities. Dr Sohini Mandal also facilitated practical tomography demonstrations. They were joined by Dr Sonali Sahoo, who led participants through a skill-based training session in specular microscopy.

For Pediatric Ophthalmology and Neuro-ophthalmology, Dr Debasmita Majhi moderated sessions, lectured on Refraction and Amblyopia, and provided essential hands-on training in the Basics of Strabismus Evaluation to provide the trainees with exposure to pediatric eye care assessments.

Meanwhile, Dr Suryasnata Rath delivered an extensive lecture on the diagnosis and management of Canalicular Diseases, and Dr Devjyoti Tripathy conducted an insightful session focused identifying eye cancer, teaching residents the crucial signs required for early diagnosis and timely intervention.

Beyond the sessions, the MTC optometry team significantly enhanced the program’s practical learning. Their involvement highlighted how important multidisciplinary collaboration is for comprehensive eye care education. Ms Soumya Panda, Ms Jayalaxmi Swain, and Ms Sandhita Nayak managed practical workshops on Low Vision Evaluation and Diagnosis, guiding trainees through modern assistive devices and rehabilitation protocols for visually impaired patients.

Furthermore, Mr Umasankar Barik and Ms Puspanjali Mishra demonstrated advanced clinical applications for diverse contact lenses, focusing especially on scleral lenses, thereby providing trainees with practical exposure to contemporary contact lens practices and patient management techniques.

The active participation and academic leadership demonstrated at DAKSHATA 3.0 highlights LVPEI’s commitment to educational innovation, hands-on skill development, and excellence in ophthalmic education.
