CVI Services
Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a visual impairment caused by damage or dysfunction of the parts of the brain responsible for processing visual information. A child may have normal or near-normal eyes(on examination), but experience difficulty using vision effectively.
CVI services include specialised services for individuals with Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment, including functional vision assessment, evaluation of visual behaviours, individualized interventions, environmental adaptations and guidance for parents, caregivers and professionals.
CVI services include assessment of how the child uses vision in everyday situations, including visual attention, recognition, visual processing and responses to different visual environments. It helps understand the child’s individual visual strengths and challenges.
Based on the assessment, individualised strategies and interventions are provided to help the child use vision more effectively. This may include adapting the visual environment, simplifying visual information, using appropriate targets and supporting visual recognition and functional activities. We also work closely with parents, caregivers and other professionals, providing practical strategies that can be incorporated into learning, communication and daily activities.
Who can benefit?
Children and adults with suspected or diagnosed CVI who experience difficulties using vision despite the absence of significant ocular findings, or whose visual difficulties are related to neurological conditions.
